Quiz time! How many hours can Liz stay awake without sleeping?
Answer: 30 hours...and counting
Yeah, guess who didn't sleep on her plane rides today? But it's ok because that was my own doing haha! Here is how the last 30 hours have gone: So I get to O'Hare, and after finally getting through security and such, I sat down in the terminal. There was a nice lady that was sitting near me who was apparently going to Greece to see her mom, so talking to her was fun! Then when I got on the plane (after a 50 minute delay) I was happy to see that my seat was next to a younger guy, and not a crying baby! (Who was a few seats away from us.) We talked most of the plane ride...except for a while when we watched movies. He was on his way home to see his family in Austria, which was really cool to hear about! So yeah, it was nice being social, but not getting sleep probably wasn't the best choice :)
Then I arrive to Munich (which is BEAUTIFUL from the air) and find my terminal to chill at for a while. Also sitting there were three other girls going to Florence, so it was nice I wasn't the only one. We took a tram to the plane, which was a little sketchy-looking since it had old-school propellers. After sitting on the plane a while, we were told to get OFF the plane and go back to the terminal because there were technical problems with the engine. So we all rode the tram back, sat for 30 minutes, and rode the tram again back to the plane and finally took off.
The plane ride was really cool because the ground went from really flat, to completely mountainous! After this plane landed in Florence (!!!), two of the girls I met and I all decided to get a cab together since we were going to the same place. We found our check-in building ok, but then we decided to walk to find our apartment. One of the girls (Ashley) and I were in the same building, so we ventured off together. After wandering for 40ish minutes with our giant suitcases and getting lost numerous times, we FINALLY found our apartment...with our roommates waiting for us outside! Long story short, we got settled and walked around a bit to get food and such. The apartment is awesome, and pictures of everything so far will come up soon. But for now, I desperately need sleep. So I will fall asleep to the sound of live orchestra music playing in the nearby public square! How I love Florence already :)
Sounds like you had an exciting start to your trip! But I'm glad you arrived safely and I can't wait to see pictures!
